Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
28/01/2013
Chelsea showed fighting spirit to earn a draw in the fourth
round FA Cup tie at our League One neighbours Brentford.
The two west London clubs drew 2-2 at Griffin Park – the
result means there will be a replay at Stamford Bridge in three weeks’ time to
decide who makes the trip to Middlesbrough for the next round of the
competition.
There was a scare early on for the Blues when JT, making his
first start since November, played a backpass to Turnbull in goal. The ‘keeper
dived on the ball and the referee awarded an indirect free kick inside the
area. Fortunately for the Blues, Forrester’s effort was blasted over the bar.
But the Blues were behind before half-time when Turnbull
parried a long-range shot into the path of Trotta. He made no mistake and the
score was 1-0.
We pulled level in the second half thanks to an outstanding
piece of skill from Oscar. He controlled a looping ball on the edge of the area
before dribbling past two defenders and sending his finish into the top-left corner
with the outside of his right boot. This was turning into a proper cup-tie!
But the Bees went ahead again in the 73rd minute
when Turnbull brought down Adeyemi in the box. The referee pointed to the spot
and Forrester converted: 2-1 to the home team.
Luckily there was still time for some magic from Torres. He
combined nicely with Ba on the edge of the area before curling his finish into
the top-right corner!
Bring on the replay!
