Brighton 3-1 Chelsea
A strong Chelsea side was on the wrong side of a
disappointing 3-1 scoreline away to Championship side Brighton on Saturday.
Despite going ahead in the first half thanks a to a
well-taken strike from Lamps, the Blues lost their third preseason game in a
row. Things will have to improve in time for next week’s Community Shield clash
against champions Man City.
After 35 minutes Lamps put the visitors in front after
Torres expertly stepped over a diagonal ball from Ramires. It ran straight into
the Lamps’ path and he made no mistake with the finish.
But just two minutes later the score was level. Even at
full-length Cech was only able to get his fingertips to Vicente’s side-footed
effort.
Then, before half time, the big ‘keeper was called into
action again. He did well to knock the ball out of the path of Vicente, but the
Seagull’s Ashely Barnes was on hand to fire the loose ball into the net: 2-1 to
Brighton.
The Blues did have chances in the second half. Mikel found
an opening for Ramires, but his shot was saved at the near post. Lamps and
Torres later combined well, but in the end, Lamps’ shot was blocked.
Four minutes from time, Brighton’s victory was complete.
After a clash that saw Luiz go down outside the area, a number of Blues players
stopped and were caught napping. Andrew Crofts reacted quickly and slotted the
ball past Cech.
A disappointing afternoon, but the Blues will have a chance
to get back to winning ways next week!
