Hazard speaks to bridgekids
Eden Hazard wants to give Chelsea supporters the best Christmas present of all – maximum points from the busy festive schedule!
The Blues playmaker is yet to experience playing football at this time of year, as the French Ligue 1, which he played in with Lille, is subject to a winter break each year. However, he is relishing the prospect of lining up against Norwich City on Boxing Day, having spent his early years watching the Premier League's festive fixtures.
"In England it's kind of a religion to play at Christmas," the Belgian winger says. "I think it's a special moment for the players and the fans; I've come to Chelsea to play these kinds of matches and, as always, I'll do my best.
"I would always watch English football on the telly over Christmas and even then I could see what a special atmosphere it was. It's a good thing to share between players and supporters at an important time of the year, it's like a family in the stadium."
When we asked Eden what he would like Father Christmas to come down the chimney with, his answer was immediate: "As many victories as possible. I don't really remember any gifts that I received as a child, but I do know I was never unhappy on Christmas day so I must have always got the toys I wanted! I hope I get what I want this year..."
He has already received one gift, though. At a recent signing session at the Stamford Bridge Megastore, one generous fan decided that, as she was getting Hazard's signature on her copy of the Chelsea Annual 2013, he should get something in return...
"She gave me a Maroon 5 CD! I've already listened to it in my car and I really liked it. Cesar Azpilicueta got an Abba CD, but I can't remember what Victor Moses got. They were very good presents, it was a nice gesture."
But will Eden, be donning a Santa hat to give out some presents of his own? "I won't be dressing up as Santa – there won't be time as we have too many matches, and I want us to win them all. Merry Christmas to all Chelsea fans!"
