Chelsea are through to the next stage of the Champions League!
The Blues played Atlético Madrid for a second time last night, having beaten them 4-0 two weeks ago. But this time the opposition were on home ground and proved to be a trickier to beat.
Sergio Aguero put the Spaniards 1-0 up midway through the second half and it was up to Didier Drogba to equalise in the 81st minute.
Five minutes later and Drogba had the chance to put the Blues ahead for the first time from an Ashley Cole pass. The strike was initially saved by keeper Sergio Asenjo, but when the ball fell back at Drogba's feet, he drilled it home.
But Aguero wasn't about to let his first goal go to waste and he took the opportunity of a free kick in the dying minutes of the game to equalise, ending the match 2-2.
A draw is good enough to put Chelsea into the next stage of the Champions League with two games to spare, but Ballack is hoping for more. "We're happy we are through at this early stage," he said. "But now we want to finish in first place."
