Exclusive Matic interview
Despite the busy start to the season for Chelsea's top players, we managed to grab 15 minutes with midfield maestro Nemanja Matic to find out a bit more about him!
What's the best thing about playing for Chelsea?
Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world in this moment and Chelsea always play to win. This club always wants to be first and that feeling is very important for me. Of course, it is also very good if you can live in London.
What is your favourite Stamford Bridge memory?
I think it would be my second Chelsea debut – the first game I played there after I returned in January, when I came on as a substitute against Manchester United. That was a very good feeling.
Who do you sit next to in the dressing room?
I sit next to Branislav Ivanovic and Oscar. They are good guys – everyone in our changing room is a nice man and there is a very nice atmosphere.
Who were your football heroes growing up and why?
Zinedine Zidane. For me, he is the best player ever. I really liked the style he played with and the way he was on the pitch. When I was young, I was always watching him. My hero was Zidane.
Did you ever play in any other positions before settling in central midfield?
Yes. Before I went to Benfica, I played mainly as an offensive midfielder, like a No10. It was when I moved to Benfica that I started playing as a defensive midfielder – that's when I changed to my role at the moment.
What do you like to do when you are not playing football?
I have two kids now, so I don't have any days off! So, I spend time with my family, go to the park with the kids so we can spend some time together. This is my spare time: with the kids and with the family.
