Terry wins Club Defender of the Year
28/08/2009
Our very own John Terry has been named Club Defender of the Year by UEFA.
The presentation was made during the Champions League draw in Monaco, and it is the third time he has been handed the award.
"What I try to do is come in to training and work very hard every day," Terry said when asked what was behind his success. "And not to be able to get my hands on the Champions League trophy, that is enough motivation for me. That is something I am aiming to do with Chelsea."
Petr Cech was nominated for the Club Goalkeeper award which went to Manchester United's Edwin van der Sar.
Votes were cast by the coaches of the 16 teams that reached the knockout stages of the competition. Best midfielder was Xavi and best forward was Lionel Messi, both of Barcelona.
