Young Lions held by Sweden

Tammy Abraham, Lewis Baker and Nathaniel Chalobah played the whole of the England Under 21s' opening match against Sweden in the European Under-21 Championships.

The match ended a tight 0-0 draw, with both sides creating a few good chances to take the lead.

Chalobah started in central midfield, while Baker supported Tammy Abraham who was playing as a lone striker up top.

Sweden had the best chance of the game, after they were awarded a penalty 10 minutes from time, but the ball was struck down the middle and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a good save.

After the match, Abraham spoke to the Official Chelsea Website.

‘After conceding a penalty of course it is a good point for us,’ said Abraham. ‘We will take a point and we need a win now so of course we will go next game and give it our all, and hopefully I will get a few more chances.

‘It was hard against Sweden and I knew what I was going into. They dropped deep and they liked to close me off and I knew what was coming, so we had to be patient but the chances didn’t come. But we will take the point.’

All three players will be hoping for a win when England face Poland later today (Monday). Keep an eye on BridgeKids for a match report!
