Chelsea denied double by Arsenal

Arsenal denied Chelsea the Premier League and FA Cup double on Sunday.

Alexis Sanchez put the Gunners ahead just four minutes into the FA Cup final, even though he seemed to handle the ball in the build up to the goal.

At first, the linesman's flag went up, as Aaron Ramsey was in an offside position. However, the referee ruled that the Welshman hadn't been involved in the goal, and overruled his fellow official.

Chelsea struggled to get into the game, and then things were made even harder after half-time when Victor Moses saw a second yellow for simulation.

Despite being down to ten men, Chelsea were the next to score!

Diego Costa, as has often been the case, stepped up to the big occasion to put Chelsea level.

Hazard, Fabregas and Willian exchanged quick passes on the edge of the box, before the Brazilian chipped it into Diego Costa.

The striker controlled it on his chest, let it bounce and struck it on the volley into the net.

Straight after the goal, however, Chelsea switched off.

Almost immediately from kick off, Olivier Giroud ran to the touchline and crossed in to Aaron Ramsey, who headed it home.

The second goal put Arsenal out of reach for the 10 men of Chelsea, who were showing signs of their tough, Premier League trophy-winning campaign.

‘Arsenal started the game better than us,’ said Antonio Conte in an interview after the match. ‘Honestly, I think the first goal should have been disallowed because there was a clear handball, but our start wasn’t good for the first 20-25 minutes.

‘Then, after that we started to play. In the second half we started very well and created chances to equalise. The second yellow card for Moses was one of the key moments but despite the situation we were able to equalise.

‘Then we conceded after 30 seconds or something and that was the key moment for our loss. We created another chance through Diego and Ospina made a fantastic save.

‘This season has been a great one for us, to win the league with 30 victories, and reach the final of the FA Cup is incredible. My players must keep in their mind our fantastic season and also this final, because you have to reach this point to play the final. We must be proud.’

In another interview on Monday, Conte repeated how hapy he was, and said that he has already started to look forward to next season.

‘It’s very important to analyse very well our season. Our squad that we had this season reached an incredible target with players that performed 120%.

‘But we didn’t have injuries this season, we were very good with our work but also we were very lucky. You can have traumatic injuries and it doesn’t depend on the work. We must not forget that.

‘Next season will be another tough season for all the teams. Don’t forget this season we haven’t had a squad like United’s or City’s or Tottenham’s or Arsenal’s. This season we won the league and we start next season as champions.’
