Festive fact and stat attack!

It's the festive season, and you know what that means! Presents, parties and plenty of football.

The end of December is possibly the busiest of the football calendar, with midweek matches coming hot on the heels of weekend fixtures.

And that means there are plenty of incredible seasonal stats and festive facts from the end of the year!

Did you know? Chelsea were the first team to play a starting XI of entirely foreign players in 1999!

The team was: Ed de Goey (Netherlands), Albert Ferrer (Spain), Frank Leboeuf (France), Emerson Thome (Brazil), Dan Petrescu (Romania), Celestine Babayaro (Nigeria), Gus Poyet (Uruguay), Didier Deschamps (France), Roberto Di Matteo (Italy), Gabriele Ambrosetti (Italy), and Tore Andre Flo (Norway).

Flo scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Southampton.

In fact, Boxing Day is one of Chelsea's favourite days to play! The last time the Blues lost on the 26 December was way back in 2003!

Last year, the Blues enjoyed a 3-0 win over tonight's (Wednesday) opponents Bournemouth!

Did you know? Football matches actually used to be played on Christmas Day!

In 1948, when Chelsea played Portsmouth on 25 December, football fans were able to buy matchday programmes for the first time!

43 years before that, a rivalry started that is still fierce today...

Did you know? Chelsea played Manchester United for the first time ever on Christmas Day 1905!

Have a brilliant festive holiday!
