Ladies lose in tight Women's FA Cup match
Chelsea Ladies were narrowly beaten by Birmingham City in an exciting Women's FA Cup semi-final on Monday afternoon.
The match ended extra time at 1-1 and went to penalties, but Birmingham were calmer in front of goal and won 4-2.
It means that the Blues miss out on the final for the first time in three years.
However, even though it's Emma Hayes's first defeat of the season, the Blues boss will have a lot of positives to take away from the match.
The game was goalless until the 63rd minute, when Birmingham went ahead through Megan Sargeant. But the battling Blues showed their strength with a goal two minutes from time.
The ball fell to Drew Spence on the edge of the area after bouncing around the penalty box, and the Chelsea midfielder curled a wonderful strike into the net to send the tie into extra time.
Chelsea had most of the pressure, but couldn't break down Birmingham City in time.
Chelsea Ladies now have just under two weeks to prepare for the start of the Women's Super League season, when they face Yeovil Town Ladies in the opener.
