Fran Kirby brace seals victory over Bristol City

Chelsea Ladies are one win away from sealing the Spring Series trophy after beating Bristol City 4-0 on Wednesday night.

Emma Hayes's side led at the break thanks to a Millie Bright header, but the points were sealed in the second-half by two Fran Kirby strikes in 10 minutes.

Ramona Bachmann added a fourth 10 minutes from time, capping a brilliant team performance.

Although the home side started the match more brightly, Chelsea dug in and made sure they kept a clean sheet.

After a period of Blues pressure, Bright put them ahead. Maren Mjelde found her teammate with a pinpoint free-kick, which the England midfielder headed home.

The first goal came half an hour into the match, and Chelsea didn't have another chance to make it two before the half-time whistle.

Fran Kirby came on for Erin Cuthbert for the second-half, and made a big impact, but it was Crystal Dunn's substitution that was the difference.

The American was heavily involved in Chelsea's second goal, winning back possession for the Blues. Bachmann and Kirby then exchanged some neat passes, before Kirby scored.

Bristol's defence were at fault for the third, as Kirby took advantage of a poor back pass to get one-on-one with the goalkeeper and score.

The scorer of Chelsea's first goal, Millie Bright, set up the fourth. The midfielder clipped a ball to Bachmann in the box, who beat the defender and struck home.

Chelsea face Bristol City on Saturday, knowing that a win would all but secure them the Spring Series.
