Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Chelsea drew 0-0 against Leicester City in their third straight goalless match in all competitions.

The result means that Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has managed to keep six clean sheets in the last eight home games in the Premier League!

Many of the Chelsea stars came into the match tired after a busy winter period, as Blues boss Conte played a strong team.

Courtois was protected by Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and Toni Rudiger in defence, while Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses started on the wings.

They sandwiched a midfield three of Tiemoue Bakayoko, N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas, who linked up with attacking pair Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata.

Both sides had good chances in the first-half, with Cesc twice testing Kasper Schmeichel in the Foxes goal.

At the other end, Courtois made a smart save to claw away a headed shot, while Cahill made a great tackle and then a brilliant block to deny the visitors.

His efforts told, however, and half an hour into the match Chelsea’s captain pulled up with an injury and couldn’t continue. Andreas Christensen came on to replace him.

Conte switched the formation to 4-3-3 around the hour mark, bringing on Willian and Pedro. Chelsea started to press for an opening goal, and Leicester were down to ten men soon after when Ben Chilwell was sent off with for a second yellow card.

The Blues couldn’t find the breakthrough, however, and had to settle for one point.

‘I think to find an excuse or alibi, today we paid for our effort against Arsenal,’ said Conte after the match.

‘To play on Wednesday and then against a really good, physical team like Leicester, after only two days, is tough. We played with almost the same players as we did against Arsenal.

‘My plan was to play with one team against Norwich and then these last two games with the same team. I saw a lot of players who were very tired.’

Chelsea fans will now hope that their favourite players will be able to recover in time for Wednesday’s FA Cup replay against Norwich City.
