Chelsea 2-2 Southampton

The Blues surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead at the Bridge, to draw against a spirited Southampton side, 2-2.

It’s another disappointing home result, largely because of how well we played in the first half. Demba Ba, making his first home start in the league, put the Blues in front in the 25th minute, tucking home a neat volley after the Saints defence failed to clear a cross from right-back Azpilicueta.

Just before half-time Ramires sent a shot clattering into the crossbar. It rebounded to Hazard whose left-footed finish found the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

But the second half belonged to the Saints. Less than three minutes after he came on as a substitute, Rickie Lambert rose highest to meet a decent cross and nod it past Cech in goal. The Premier League’s leading English scorer collected the ball from the net and ran back to his own half – Saints were in the mood for a comeback.

The game was level on 75 minutes when Luke Shaw’s low cross found Jason Puncheon on the right-hand side of the box. Puncheon took one touch to flick the ball up before powering his shot into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

Torres replaced Lamps in the 79th minute as Chelsea tried to find a winner, but the game ended in a draw.
