Match Report: Spurs 3-1 Chelsea

Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham ends in disappointment, as the Blues are defeated for the first time this season.

Going two-nil down in the first sixteen minutes meant the Blues were on the back foot for most of the game, and even though they managed to get a goal later on, it wasn’t enough.

As soon as the match began, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be an easy game for the Blues, and it didn’t take long for Spurs to take the lead.

Right away the home side forced a couple of corners, one of which was headed over the bar by Eric Dier. This was followed by a decent looking Chelsea attack, which resulted in Morata flicking the ball just over the bar.

The frustrations began soon after this, when Tottenham took the lead. Christian Eriksen sent in a free-kick from the right, which found Dele Alli, who headed the ball beyond the Chelsea keeper and into the net.

Hazard was denied a penalty appeal soon after, which made it even more frustrating when Spurs doubled their lead just minutes later. It was Harry Kane this time with a low strike into the near post.

It’s never easy to go two goals down so early on, but Chelsea didn’t let it get them down! They responded with lots of attacks, the best of which coming from Hazard eight minutes before half time. The Spurs keeper kept it away, and the first half finished 2-0.

Though the Blues were starting to cause problems for Spurs, the home side managed to get another goal in the 54th minute. Dele Alli released Son, who got past Jorginho and Luiz before slipping the ball past Kepa.

With the time ticking, it wasn’t looking good for the Blues. Even so, Olivier Giroud, who was introduced in place of Willian, managed to get a headed goal thanks to an Azpilicueta header!

Unfortunately, that was about as good as it was going it get for the Blues, and the match finished 3-1 to Spurs.

A frustrating afternoon for Sarri’s men.
