Match Report: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

N’Golo Kante scored his third goal of the season in the second half to seal the victory for Chelsea.

Though the Blues have beaten Palace in their last two matches, Selhurst Park isn’t an easy place to visit. When we last played there, we lost! This game was looking particularly difficult after palace got a massive win at Manchester City and a draw with Cardiff.

The Chelsea squad only featured two changes from the team that beat Watford, with Giroud replacing Pedro and Ross Barkley in for Mateo Kovacic.

With Palace aware of Chelsea’s attacking power, it was no surprise that they set up defensively! It took a while for Chelsea to get their first chance. This came in the form of a free-kick from Willian, who found Rudiger. Unfortunately, the German was positioned wrong to make an accurate shot.

Aside this and a couple of shots from Kante, it was a very quiet opening half hour. This was until Hazard was tripped and Willian was up for another free-kick. He fired it at goal and hit the outside of the post! So close!

The first-half finished without a goal, but this was about to change after the restart…

Just five minutes into the half, Chelsea took the lead! David Luiz sent in a perfect ball to Kante, who chested the ball down and hit it with his left-foot on the half-volley into the back of the net!

After the goal, the Blues kept powering on, keeping hold of the ball and leading the way with attacks. On the 65th minute, Willian fired a shot but was denied by the Palace keeper.

Giroud was next to try on goal and managed to find the back of the net! However, it was ruled offside.

As the time ticked on, Chelsea continued to be in charge, with Luiz and Rudiger bossing it in defence! Aside from a high shot from James Tompkins, it never looked like Palace were going to bring it back.

The Blues win all three points! Next stop, Southampton at home on Wednesday night!
