Friday Facts: Chelsea and Italy

Chelsea had an amazing 3-3 draw with Serie A side AS Roma on Wednesday, just one of the many Italian sides that the Blues have had great matches against.

In fact, there is a great history of Italians at the Bridge, and not just playing for the other side...

Here are five fantastic facts about Italians at Chelsea:

1. Chelsea's first ever competitive European match against an Italian side was in 1965, when the Blues beat Roma 4-1!

2. After English and Scottish managers, Chelsea have had more Italian managers than any other nationality: five!

3. Between them, Chelsea's Italian managers have won eleven major trophies! In fact, Italian managers have won more trophies for the Blues than managers from any other country!

4. 13 Italians have played for Chelsea throughout the years. Two of those players, Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Di Matteo, have gone on to be Chelsea manager!

5. Gianluca Vialli won an incredible six trophies with Chelsea, as a player and then a manager!

Many of Chelsea's greatest ever players and managers, from Gianfranco Zola to Carlo Cudicini, have come from Italy. Let's hope that Chelsea's two Italian stars, Antonio Conte and Davide Zappacosta, can continue to be successful!
