Chelsea Ladies reach FA Cup final!

Two great goals from Fran Kirby was enough to defeat the current holders, securing Chelsea Ladies a place in the FA Cup final!

It’s the third time in four years that the Ladies have reached the final, and this was all down to a brilliant team performance from the Blues.

Blues manager Emma Hayes didn’t make too many changes, she brought in Katie Chapman and Erin Cuthbert. The rest of the squad was the same as the team that drew with Arsenal before the international window.

The match was instantly captivating, and you could tell from the start that it was going to be a great game.

Within five minutes, the Blues were already a goal up!

After City player and England international Steph Houghton misjudged a long ball from Magda Eriksson, Kirby neatly slipped by her and fired the ball into the bottom left of the goal. What a start!

The Blues slowed the pace down after this and kept hold of the ball, minimalising any chance of a City attack.

Then at the 17th minute, we came to close to scoring again. This time from a well taken corner which landed by Maren Mjelde, who struck a half volley which was cleared off the line.

City began to test us a bit after this, but only forced one save from our keeper in the first half.

City found it equally as hard to get through our defence after the break, with their best effort coming from a 30-yard effort from Jill Scott.

We were defending hard, and only once came close to conceding after Georgia Stanway forced a vital save from our keeper.

One player that wasn’t interested in defending was Kirby, who was eying up her second goal, and it wasn’t far away.

After another error from the City defence, Kirby slipped by the defender and ran from the halfway line, cutting into the box, brilliantly tricking dummying the ball onto her left foot and beating the keeper. Kirby just can’t stop scoring!

It was a brilliant goal that rightly won us the match, and a place in the final!

Next stop, Wembley!
