Chelsea Ladies Win Women’s Super League!

16/05/2018

Following on from winning the FA Cup on Saturday, the Chelsea Ladies have beaten Bristol City 2-0 to pick up this season’s Women’s Super League!

It’s the ladies second domestic double in the past four years. We picked up both trophies back in 2015!

This tops off a brilliant season for Chelsea ladies, who have been pretty much unstoppable.

The game could have gone very different early on, when Mille Farrow (who used to play for Chelsea) was given the ball after a mistaken pass! Luckily for us, she put her shot wide.

The early scare was a wake-up call for Chelsea, and after a close attempt from Drew Spence, we came back again to find the back of the net!

Like so many times this season, the goal was created by Ji So-Yun, who crossed the ball towards the penalty spot, where Spence was waiting to shoot the ball into the back of the net! 1-nil!

With a goal so early in the game, it was Chelsea’s job to hold onto the lead and not slip up.

30 minutes in, Ji used her attacking gift to nearly score us another! Luckily for Bristol City though, their keeper Baggerly was in good form, and managed to save a low strike from Ji, and a follow up from Bachmann.

After a couple more chances from the Blues, Bristol City managed to just about keep us at bay, and got to half time without conceding another.

The start of the second half saw a fair amount of action, but not enough to properly test either team’s keepers.

It was time for the manager to make some changes. Green made two subs in quick succession, with Gemma Davison and Erin Cuthbert joining the action. Cuthbert made an immediate impact, she nearly scored twice straight away!

Bristol soon made a substitution, and this also added some fresh energy to the team. One of the subs, Liv Fergusson, managed to force a save from our keeper Lindahl, but the Swede was there to prevent it going into the goal.

With the clock ticking, it looked like the match was going to be a 1-nil victory for the Blues, But Jonna Anderson had other ideas! After receiving a ball from Fran Kirby, the Swede shot towards the top of the net!

And with that late goal, the Chelsea Ladies won the match 2-0, meaning the league belonged to the Blues! What a season for the Ladies!
