Chelsea draw with Liverpool

A late goal from Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge earned both teams a point in an entertaining game at the Bridge!

Until the visitor’s goal, it was looking very much like Chelsea could snatch the win. Especially with Hazard’s first half goal! This time however, the Blues were going to have to settle with a point.

Chelsea went into the match brimming with confidence, after beating Liverpool at Anfield just a few days earlier!

The amazing winning goal came from this match came from Eden Hazard, who started at the Bridge alongside fellow attacker Olivier Giroud and Willian.

The game got off to a lively start, with both teams clearly up for the challenge of getting all three points. The first opportunity came from Liverpool’s star man Mo Salah, who received a ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold and took a shot into the bottom left of the goal. Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made the save comfortably.

Though the Blues were passing the ball nicely, it took a while for them to really test Liverpool’s keeper. This changed on the 20th minute, when David Luiz picked out Willian with a beautiful pass. He raced towards goal but was denied by Alisson. So close!

This confidence stuck with the Blues after the near goal, and four minutes later they were 1-0 up!

The goal was a great team effort! It started in Chelsea’s half, with Rudiger, Kante and Luiz all exchanging passes before feeding the ball forward to Hazard, who nicely back heeled it into Kovacic’s path. The Croatian made a superb pass back to Hazard, who put in an early strike to beat Aisson and take the Blues 1-nil up!

The rest of the first half played out with attacks from both teams, with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane coming closest to scoring with an acrobatic leap. However, neither team could capitalise and the first half finished with a Chelsea lead.

The second half got under way with Chelsea looking dangerous. Giroud came close to scoring thanks to a Willian cross, and Kovacic was thwarted after being teed up by Hazard.

Soon after, Mane again came close to scoring had it not been for Kepa producing a stunning save to deny him.

The Blues had a great opportunity to go further in the lead when David Luiz was tripped by Salah in our half, earning the Blues a freekick which was taken quickly by Kante. He neatly set up Hazard, but the Belgian had his effort saved by Alisson.

The second half continued to be a test for both teams, and as the clock got closer to the 90 minute mark, it was looking like Chelsea were about to claim all three points.

This was until substitute Daniel Sturridge stepped up to score an impressive long-range drive that was impossible to save. It was hard not to admire such an amazing goal.

With this goal coming in the 89th minute, the match finished 1-1, meaning the Blues earn a point and continue their unbeaten start to the season!
