Checkatrade Trophy: MK Dons 0 Chelsea 4

Michy Batshuayi scored two goals for the development squad as they beat MK Dons 4-0 away.

There were also goals for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Charly Musonda, in a team dominated by academy talent.

Coach Joe Edwards was still able to call on some first team experience, however, naming Batshuayi, Kenedy, Eduardo and Musonda in the starting line-up.

Chelsea played in a 3-4-3 formation, with Batshuayi, Musonda and Hudson-Odoi leading the line.

Dujon Sterling and Kenedy played either side of central midfielders Kyle Scott and Trevoh Chalobah, while Reece James, Jake Clarke-Salter and Ethan Ampadu protected Eduardo in goal.

Chelsea opened the scoring on the counter-attack. Ampadu won possession in Chelsea's half, before starting a move that involved Chalobah and Scott. Kyle Scott then threaded a pass through to Batshuayi, who darted inside and drove a shot into the bottom corner.

Another quick counter-attack created Chelsea's second. Hudson-Odoi charged up field before finding kenedy on the wing. The Brazilian crossed a brilliant ball to Batshuayi who finished for his second of the night.

Hudson-Odoi then managed to put the Blues 3-0 ahead before half-time, beating the goalkeeper from 25 yards with a low shot that skidded out of his gloves.

Batshuayi turned provider for the final goal, finding Musonda on the fly with a clever flick. The Belgian found the bottom corner with a smart finish.

The win puts the Blues through to the last-16 of the competition. They will find out who they will face in Friday's draw.
