Blues put five past Forest at the Bridge

Michy Batshuayi scored his first Chelsea hat-trick on Wednesday night as the Blues put five past Championship side Nottingham Forest in the League Cup.

A first Chelsea goal for Charly Musonda and a first of the season for Kenedy rounded up the 5-1 scoreline.

Antonio Conte was able to rotate his squad for the match, after the Sunday draw with Arsenal, giving Kenedy and Musonda starts.

Willy Caballero also came into the side, protected by Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger in a back three, with Kenedy and Davide Zappacosta on the wings. Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko were in central midfield, while Musonda and Eden Hazard supported Batshuayi up front.

Although the Blues were the better team, Forest created the first chance: a strike from distance which Willy Caballero held easily.

From then on, Conte's side were almost untouchable, so when Kenedy opened the scoring with a strike from a tight angle 12 minutes in, the game was only going to go one way.

It was 2-0 less than five minutes later. Fabregas pounced on a defender after a poor pass from the Forest 'keeper and got the ball to Hazard. Batshuayi made the run and was found by a clever Hazard ball, which he struck into the net.

Forest hit the crossbar, before Musonda made it 3-0 with a whipped finish under the goalkeeper.

Eden Hazard turned it on at the start of the second-half, but was denied by the post after he found space and curled a shot towards the far corner.

A few minutes later, the brilliant Belgian set up Batshuayi's second, running into the area, beating a defender and the 'keeper with a turn, and passing coolly across to his international and club teammate to finish.

Batshuayi didn't know much about his third goal, however. Kenedy's blast bounced off the crossbar and went in off Michy who was standing in the six-yard box (where any good number 9 should be)!

Conte was able to give Ethan Ampadu and Dujon Sterling their Chelsea debuts in the match, while Jake Clarke-Salter also got some game time.

Next up in the League Cup is another home match against Everton, who Chelsea beat 2-0 in the Premier League in August.
