Blues host Saints in first game of 2019

Chelsea play Southampton at Stamford Bridge this evening as they look to start the new year with a win.

The Blues have won four of their last five matches, having finished 2018 in good form. They are currently in fourth place.

Southampton, meanwhile, are in 17th spot, just above the relegation places, but have been playing with more confidence since new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl took the reins.

Chelsea have only lost once to the Saints in the last 12 games, and that was back in 2015. Since then, they've won seven games in a row against the South Coast side.

In October, in fact, the Blues won 3-0 at St Mary's Stadium thanks to great goals from Eden Hazard, Ross Barkley and Alvaro Morata.

Eden Hazard has been in great form over the busy winter period, and scored his 100th (and 101st) goal for Chelsea against Watford a week ago. He's sure to be looking to add to that tally.

The start of the year doesn't just mean the second half of the Premier League season, it also signals the start of the January Transfer Window!

The Blues have already made one signing, bringing in Borussia Dortmund's star player Christian Pulisic before loaning him back to the German club for the rest of the season. Could there be more new players on the horizon?

The match kicks off at 7.45pm tonight! Check out BridgeKids tomorrow for a full match report!
