Bridget Explains: Spooky Stadiums!

Hi BridgeKids!

As it’s Halloween, I thought it would be a good time to tell you about some of spookiest stadiums in the UK!

The Stadium of Light, Sunderland

Sunderland FC’s stadium is said to be haunted by a spirit known as Spottee! Back in 2005, a spooky shape was seen by staff members, and then again by former striker Stephen Elliot!

Apparently, Spottee is an 18th Century fiend that used to guide ships to crash into rocks!

Highbury, Arsenal

Before Arsenal started playing at the Emirates, they played at the legendary Highbury Stadiums. Before its closure, it. was often rumoured that former Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman used to haunt the hallways of the stadium!

St Mary’s, Southampton

The year after Southampton FC moved into their brand-new stadium St Mary’s, it was believed that bad spirits were the reason they got off to such a terrible start in the league!

The stadium was apparently built on an ancient graveyard!

Madejski Stadium, Reading FC

After archaeologists found the skeleton of King Henry I near Reading FC’s stadium, rumours started circulating that his spirit was leading to Reading FC’s run of poor form!

Could the late king really have been haunting the team to lead to relegation?

Stamford Bridge, Chelsea!

There’s been rumours for years that Chelsea is home to a ghost, but not a scary one, a happy one!

The Smiling Man is known to cheer on the team, and give off a positive vibe. Maybe that’s why our team are always so good on the pitch!
