Stat Attack: FA Cup replays

16/01/2018

Chelsea face Norwich City in an FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday.

The Blues have played FA Cup replays before. In fact, way back in 1907, just a season after Chelsea was founded, the Blues had to play an FA Cup replay against Lincoln City!

Two seasons later Chelsea were at it again, beating Hull City 1-0 at home after forcing a replay in the away match!

Did you know? The first time Chelsea won the FA Cup the final had to be replayed!

That's right! Before extra time and penalties were introduced, the FA Cup final had to be replayed if the first attempt ended in a draw!

Chelsea drew 2-2 with Leeds United in the 1970 final at Wembley Stadium. A replay was scheduled for Old Trafford, where Chelsea won 2-1.

That replay win qualified Chelsea for the European Cup Winners' Cup (which doesn't exist any more). Chelsea managed to reach the final of the competition, against Spanish giants Real Madrid.

That game was forced to a replay as well! The Blues won the second match between the two sides 2-1, and lifted their first ever European trophy!

Did you know? This is the third FA Cup replay match Chelsea have played against Norwich!

The two sides drew their first ever competitive match, an FA Cup third round tie, 1-1. The Blues won the replay.

Then, in 2002, Chelsea hammered Norwich 4-0 at Stamford Bridge after their first FA Cup third round match ended 0-0!

Can Chelsea repeat that scoreline again on Wednesday? Keep an eye on BridgeKids for a full match report!
