Morata scores hat-trick in Chelsea win

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata scored his first Chelsea hat-trick on Saturday in Chelsea's 4-0 away win over Stoke City.

Pedro was also on the score sheet for the Blues, as Antonio Conte's men stayed in third place, three points off the two Manchester clubs.

Cesar Azpilicueta captained the side, in a back three with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Cristensen, protecting Thibaut Courtois in goal.

Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso provided width, while N'Golo Kante was in an all French midfield alongside Tiemoue Bakayoko. Pedro and Willian supported Morata up front.

Morata opened the scoring after just over a minute. The striker latched onto Azpilicueta's pinpoint long ball over the top, beating the offside trap and creating a one-on-one with the 'keeper, before finding the net.

Pedro added a second half an hour in, taking advantage of some more tired Stoke defending. The winger pounced on the ball after a Stoke player misdirected his chested pass and fired into the net.

The Blues continued to pile on the pressure in the second half. Morata's second goal showed off his pure pace. The Stoke defenders looked like they were running in treacle, while Morata glided past two of them and curled it around the goalkeeper from a tight angle.

Azpilicueta was at it again for Morata's third and final goal, setting up his countryman, but this time it was Cesc Fabregas who created the chance.

Fabregas, one of three substitutes along with Eden Hazard and Gary Cahill, did one of his trademark chips into the box to find the onrushing Azpi. The defender chested it calmly into Morata's path and the striker prodded it into the net.

Next up is a tough trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Morata returning to his home city where he started his career with rivals Real. After his hat-trick heroics on Saturday, he could be leading the line again on Tuesday.
